Owing to their clear view of Lake Vermilion, it’s a long-running joke in Danville that Taco Bell and and Quicklube have the best view in town. Sadly, it’s true, as access and visibility of Lake Vermilion is shockingly scarce considering the commanding footprint it enjoys. Unless you physically go to Lake Vermilion County Park, chances are you catch only the most fleeting glimpses of our community’s most defining water feature.
VCTA believes this should change immediately! Empty properties along North Vermilion St. afford an exciting opportunity for the city to construct the Lake Vermilion Overlook Park, providing stunning views of Lake Vermilion and unparalleled sunset views. Opportunity even exists for construction of hillside staircases, descending to a boat dock where paddle boat, kayak, and canoe rentals could add easy lake access right on the busy North Vermilion commercial corridor.
Construction of boat docks here also enable lake goers with the opportunity to moor themselves for a brief stop, where they can climb the stairs to Vermilion St. Here, they have a multitude of dining and shopping options within a short travel distance.
The Lake Vermilion Overlook offers yet another opportunity for Danville to better leverage it’s natural resources for huge quality-of-life increases and tourist attraction.
